Station Cities is a research project exploring the smallest former or current station cities, many of which face challenges maintaining vibrant city centers. These cities often experience a “doughnut effect,” where the outskirts thrive with a suburban feel, while the center remains empty and inactive.
The project examines patterns such as geographic location and proximity to larger cities. Findings reveal three potential outcomes: cities merging into suburbs of larger cities, remaining smaller but well-functioning, or gradually dissolving. Comprehensive studies of infrastructure and development potential inform various future scenarios, offering tailored visions for each city’s growth and adaptation.
