Amager Resource Center's future waste collection facilities are located in a prominent Copenhagen area between Øresund and Amager Bakke, making it an appealing destination for tourists, locals, and architecture enthusiasts. Situated near Copenhill, the new administrative building is designed to stand out while complementing its large neighboring structures.
The building features a four-story pyramid shape, visible from a distance and fitting within the scale of the area. The ground floor, housing facilities like changing rooms for ARC and TMF staff, is constructed with classic sandwich elements and covered in translucent polycarbonate cladding, allowing natural light while maintaining privacy. At night, integrated LED lights illuminate the polycarbonate, creating a lantern-like glow.
Above the concrete ground floor, the first and second floors form a wooden pavilion with glulam beams and CLT decks. These floors include large terraces under a roof overhang, offering outdoor spaces with beautiful views for the offices and canteen. White-framed windows provide 360-degree views of Øresund to the south and the facility to the north. The top of the pyramid houses a technical space, covered in the same translucent polycarbonate as the ground floor.
Materials like polycarbonate, unpainted concrete, greying wood, and light roofing felt reflect the Danish coastline, giving the building a bright, iceberg-like appearance that connects with its seaside context. The design emphasizes transparency, natural light, and a strong link to the surrounding landscape.
