WE Architecture is designing ARC’s new crew and parking facilities at Parkstien 12 in Valby as part of a broader reorganization aimed at increasing ARC's focus on green development, including the conversion of refuse collection vehicles to electric trucks. The building consists of three main elements: a ground floor made of load-bearing concrete that encloses private mindfulness gardens and changing facilities; a light wooden pavilion with large floor-to-ceiling windows above; and a green “overcoat” featuring integrated planters, climbing plants, and a sedum roof on the car wash pavilion.

Sustainability is a key aspect, with the building incorporating recycled materials such as concrete with 30% recycled content and wood cladding made from recycled wood. Green roofs, wild meadows, and gabions help absorb rainwater, increase biodiversity, and provide restful areas for employees. The design optimises workflow, minimizing square footage and ensuring low maintenance.

“ARC Mandskabsfaciliteter is an ambitious building, where everything - from building materials to later operations - will be organized with an eye on environmental sustainability and resources optimisation.”

The project also focuses on employee well-being, addressing the challenging work of garbage collection by creating a relaxing and dignified environment. This includes mindfulness gardens, green terraces, and communal areas for activities like table tennis and relaxation. Changing facilities are designed to offer spa-like experiences, with views of mini-gardens inspired by Japanese gardens. The administrative areas are bright and green, offering access to spacious terraces, while the building ensures an optimal indoor climate.
