Samklang is our proposal for the new town hall of Rødovre. The building will provide space for the growing administration of the Danish municipality, which is currently housed in the beautiful postwar building by Arne Jacobsen next door.
Respectful of Jacobsen's legacy, the new town hall responds to the need for transparency in public administration. We aimed to create a vertical connection between the different functions of the town hall. By bringing these public functions to the main facade, we were able to engage with the natural environment outside while creating dynamic and flexible spaces that encourage movement and interaction both vertically and horizontally. Opening up to the city, the building expresses its extroverted character, visible from the green space that connects the old and new town halls.
The new city hall will serve as the municipality’s central gathering place for citizens, civil servants, and politicians. The building was designed to provide dignified settings for ceremonial events, while simultaneously offering welcoming, non-hierarchical spaces for confidential and informal interactions.
