Located 20m from the waters edge, Boat House offers a simple and clean silhouette in the landscape. Boat House was required to provide the necessary practical storage of the clients kayaks, fishing gear, bikes and tools but to also offer a calm place to sit, enjoy the sunset and spend the night.
Given its proximity to the sea and the intention of using this space for more than just boat storage, WE thought closely about the practicality of the chosen materials. Cedar wood is used for the construction due to its ability to withstand the elements and its fantastic silver patina. The exposed beams and timber interior bring a sense of warmth and softness to the interior, set against the concrete flooring. The concrete chosen for its practicality being very easy to clean when sand and salt are inevitably carried into the space.
The panels of the eastern façade open outwards, from a top hinge, opening the space to the outdoors, extending the space and offering shade. Conversely, these shutters can be closed down, creating the cosy experience of bunkering in poor weather. Boat house is a robust, multiuse space designed for effortless practicality.
